A look around St James' Park without Sports Direct signs as Newcastle's new era arrives

The skies may have been grey and there was a constant drizzle in the air above St James' Park.

But with the removal of Sports Direct signage around the famous old stadium, it genuinely felt like the start of a new era had now begun.

It's over two months since Amanda Staveley, Saudi Arabia's PIF and the Reuben family took over from Sports Direct magnate Mike Ashley.

However, it's taken this long just to get the paperwork signed off and the remaining evidence that Ashley was even in charge to disappear.

Fans will get their first glimpse of St James' without the signs today and a quick look around the ground offered a good feeling.

Howe had said this week: "It’s a great moment for the supporters.

"We are well aware there is a new era and the club’s future is in great hands and this ties in with that moment.

"It’s something the supporters wanted to see."
