'A long way to go' - What the Spanish media are saying about Eden Hazard's start at Real Madrid

Eden Hazard has not enjoyed the most successful starts to his career in Spain.

The former Chelsea man has struggled to make an impact on Zinedine Zidane's team since his £89 million move from Stamford Bridge in the summer. The Spanish giants had been long time admirers of the Belgian, who was in imperious form for the Blues last season.

The player made no secret of the fact that he wanted to move on in the summer, but the move hasn't quite started as he would have hoped.

Injury kept the forward out of the first three La Liga games for his new club, but the 28-year-old eventually made his debut as a second half substitute in the 3-2 win over Levente last month.

Hazard has made a further four appearances for Real Madrid, but is yet to register a goal or an assist in his new colours, receiving criticism from the fans and the media for his performances. The player has also been accused of returning to pre-season overweight.

The Belgian's latest appearance saw him play the full 90 minutes of Real Madrid's disappointing 2-2 Champions League draw at Club Brugge, he again received criticism for his performance.

Here's how some sections of the Spanish media reacted to Hazard's latest appearance in a Real Madrid shirt.

AS

"Hazard brought very little to the party once more, proving an innocuous presence out wide as he struggled to offer any penetration to the Real Madrid attack. In the second half, he took up positions further infield and looked a little better, trying his luck on goal from mid-range. However, the Belgian still has a long way to go to start looking like the player who Madrid signed and who starred in Chelsea's Europa League win."

Marca

"Real Madrid showed that they didn't have any plan against Club Brugge in a game where Eden Hazard once again failed to leave his mark.

"With just one point from their first two Champions League games, Los Blancos will need two wins against Galatasaray to be in a more comfortable position in the group stage. Against the Belgians, however, Madrid showed that they lack speed with Gareth Bale's absence, as well as concentration in crucial moments of the match.

"Apart from the two goals they conceded in the second half, Zinedine Zidane's men saw Siebe Schrijvers almost net his side's third with a few minutes to go until the end of the game. Real Madrid's current issues originate from the lack of a football plan and the below par performances of players such as Hazard, Lucas Vazquez, Dani Carvajal, Raphael Varane or Luka Modric."
