A Lochmaben man was the fourth fatality on Dumfriesshire roads inside four days

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a lorry and a car on the A709 near Lockerbie on Saturday morning.

Forty-nine year-old Scott Crosbie of Lochmaben was pronounced dead at the scene of the horror accident which happened near Shillahill Bridge at around 10.45am.

Mr Crosbie had been travelling west, towards his home, when the collision happened.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and the road was closed for a number of hours while inquiries were carried out.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident or anyone who may have dash-cam footage taken in the area around the time of the crash

Sergeant Leigh McCulloch said: “We have spoken to a number of drivers who stopped at the time of the incident, however we are appealing for anyone who has not spoken to us to get in touch.

“We would also ask anyone who may have dash-cam footage from the A709, or in that area, from this morning to get come forward. You may have information that can help us establish exactly what happened here.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101.

The tragedy happened days after three men were killed in two separate crashes less than 10 hours apart on the M74 in Dumfriesshire.

Twenty-two-year-old Craig McLaren from Eastriggs died when the car he was driving crashed near Ecclefechan on Wednesday night.

An 18-year-old male passenger in the car was taken to hospital in Glasgow with serious but non-life threatening injuries

And two female passengers, aged 16 and 19 from Moffat and Lockerbie, were taken to Dumfries Infirmary with what were also described as serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The second accident happened at around 6.15am on Thursday when a lorry and van collided on the northbound carriageway of the M74 between Eaglesfield and Kirkpatrick Fleming.

Fifty-seven-year-old David John Walton, who was driving the van, and 17-year-old Joshua Hatton-Emery, both from Stoke-on-Trent, died in the crash.
