'A local lad loved by many': Tributes paid after man dies in fall from bridge over M60

Tributes have been paid to a man who died after falling from a bridge over the M60.

Emergency services responded to the incident at Junction 19 of the motorway near Middleton at around 2.15pm on Tuesday afternoon.

Sadly, a man aged in his 40s was declared dead at the scene.

His identity has been confirmed as Darren Brennan from the Blackley area.

Police said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

A spokesperson for Manchester's coroner's office confirmed they are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination and an inquest is likely to be opened in the next few weeks.

Darren, known by many as Daz, was a popular and much-loved man in Blackley and several people took to social media to pay tribute.

"Can't believe it luv to the Brennan family you're in our prayers," one friend wrote on our Facebook page.

Another wrote: "May you be at peace now, such sad news for our local community known and liked by everyone. Fly high."

And another friend said: "Absolutely gutted I’m not going to see your huge smile again. What a lovely gentleman with a heart of gold. You're at piece now shine bright mate and fly high."

"OMG heartbroken I can't believe it this man was so loved and wanted Rest in paradise daz!! " wrote another.

Another simply added: "A local lad loved by many. "

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said on Tuesday: “Shortly before 2.15pm on Tuesday 9 March 2021, police were called by colleagues at NWAS to reports of a man falling from a bridge on the M60 near junction 19.

“Officers attended and sadly, a man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene.

“His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
