A-Listers coming to Glasgow as filming of new blockbuster Borderland to begin

Hollywood A-listers John Boyega, Felicity Jones, Sam Claflin, Jack Reynor and Jodie Turner Smith are all coming to Glasgow to film new action movie Borderland.

Star Wars actor John Boyega and Theory of Everything star Felicity Jones join Hunger Games and Peaky Blinders actor Sam Claflin, Transformers's actor Jack Reynor and Queen and Slim actor Jodie Turner Smith for the film.

Directors Charles and Thomas Guard who have directed films including The Avengers, and The Uninvited chose the city of Glasgow to direct their new movie which is set in the 1970s.

It tells the story of an IRA operative, whose wife is shot dead in Ireland, and leads an Active Service Unit onto the streets of London.

Their mission is to cause chaos and destruction, while his personal mission is to hunt down his wife’s killer- an SAS captain, who is also hunting him.

The movie is based on the book The Road to Balcombe Street by Dr Steven S Moysey and shooting will take place in September 2021.

The Guard Brothers debut Uninvited movie grossed $50 million worldwide.

Felicity played Jyn Erso in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (© 2016 Lucasfilm Ltd. & ™, All Rights Reserved.)

The movie was originally scheduled to start shooting in March but cancellations due to Covid meant it had to be postponed.

It's the latest film to come to Scotland and follows in the recent footsteps of Taron Egerton's Tetris and Anika with Nicola Walker.

Notably, in 2011 Glasgow city centre was transformed into Philadelphia for Brad Pitt blockbuster World War Z.

Fifty Shades star Jamie Dornan's name was initially touted for the film in 2018 but stepped down from the project.

Tom and Charles Guard said: "Borderland is a vengeance fuelled chase movie, fusing some pulse ticking action with a powerful message for our times.

"We’re thrilled that the script, driven as much by character as it is by plot, has attracted such a first rate cast."
