'A life-changing move' - why Nottingham Forest target Lyle Taylor turned down new Charlton deal

Lyle Taylor's next move will be life-changing, according to Charlton boss Lee Bowyer.

The 30-year-old striker is understood to have undergone a medical at Nottingham Forest on Friday with a view to completing a free transfer move to the City Ground.

Taylor, who helped fire the Addicks to promotion from League One, went from hero to villain in south London earlier this year, when he decided against extending his contract to enable him to play in the final run of games once the Championship re-started.

While Taylor came in for heavy criticism from some sections of Valley fans, his manager admitted he understood entirely why his star man made the decision he did.

"Lyle's a big player for us - a bit like [Troy] Deeney at Watford. You know, similar situation - when he plays, we win games.

"Lyle has said that he's not going to play because of risk of injury.

"He is going to get a life-changing move," Bowyer said back in June.

"I was saying this a few months ago when this first happened, when we were talking about the contract problem.

"I thought this could be a problem because I know how well Lyle has done for us.

"If it wasn't for Lyle, we wouldn't even be in this division. He was outstanding last season, he had a great start this season.

"He's chose now not to come back and play to the end, so we have to move on because I've got a lot of players that are hungry."
