
Gavin Williamson is resisting calls to resign after the Government U-turn on A-level and GCSE results, saying he was previously confident the exam grading system would "deliver fair outcomes for students".
It comes after the Government U-turn on A-level grades following uproar after around 40 per cent of results were downgraded by exams regulator Ofqual, which used a formula based on schools' prior grades.
Labour this morning demanded clarity for students, parents and universities after the U-turn as party leader Sir Keir Starmer branded the Government's handling of that situation "incompetent".
Meanwhile, students are preparing to receive their GCSE grades on Thursday, and teachers' estimates will be awarded to students unless the computer algorithm gave them a higher grade.
