A large hole has appeared in a busy road in Eccles

A huge pot hole has appeared on a busy road in Salford .

Salford City Council have sealed off a section of New Lane, in Eccles , while United Utilities work to repair the sinkhole which is located near to the Asda supermarket and Beech Street Primary School.

It is understood to have been caused by a sewer collapse.

Engineers are working at the site to repair the hole.

Salford Council have said investigation work is underway and estimate the road will be closed for some time.

A statement said: "Emergency road closure on New Lane in Eccles due to a major sewer collapse.

"United Utilities have been informed however given the size of the collapse and investigation works required it is not envisaged to be a quick fix."

United Utilities are working to repair the hole in New Lane Eccles (Salford City Council)


A spokewoman for United Utilities said: “We can confirm that the hole in the road on New Lane, Eccles has been caused by a sewer collapse and we will be carrying out further investigations and repair as a matter of priority. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause to commuters.”
