A Lady's Guide to the Art of Being a Wingman

Lady’s Guide to the Art of Being a Wingman
Lady’s Guide to the Art of Being a Wingman

The term wingman was first used in a social setting in the 1986 film Top Gun to describe the guy who helps his buddy to ask a girl out. Melbourne’s cabaret trio The Desperettes flip the word on its head in their new show A Lady’s Guide to the Art of being a Wingman.

Daisy (Belinda Hanne Reid), Delilah (Lisa Woodbrook) and DeeDee (Natasha York) adopt all the pick-up lines and daggy grooves to make that first move necessary. And in doing so, they highlight not only how ridiculous the world of dating has become, but also the gender stereotypes associated with it.
