A Lad in Govan set to save panto season with 'socially conscious' community show this Christmas

Panto fans might have something to enjoy this year after all as A Lad in Govan prepares to take to the stage.

Halo Arts have promised to deliver a 'socially conscious' pantomime at Govan 's Pearce Institute.

The show, which ran in Maryhill last year, will put a Glasgow spin on the classic tale of Aladdin.

Organisers were inspired to create the show as a low cost alternative to city centre Christmas shows.

Artistic director Brendon McIlroy has assured audiences that health and safety is at the forefront of the show and will Covid-19 guidelines will be followed.

Among the measures in place will be staggered arrival and departure slots at the venue for the audience, decreased venue capacity, hand sanitizing stations and deep cleaning after each performance.

Mr McIllroy said: "With so many pantos cancelled this year, A Lad in Govan is one of the last shows still standing.

"We are very much a community pantomime and a number of tickets will be given to local charities and community groups as well as schools through out outreach programme."

A Lad in Govan will be running from December 17 to 29 and tickets are on sale now from www.aladdingovan.co.uk
