A knife disguised as a key has been discovered in a car park

It may look small, but that doesn't make it any less deadly.

This is the latest potentially lethal weapon taken off the streets by police.

The hand-made blade - which can be folded down and disguised as a key - was discovered by eagle-eyed officers in a Manchester city centre car park on Wednesday.

Inspector Jon Middleton shared photos of the hidden weapon on the GMP City Centre Twitter feed.

He wrote: "We regularly carry out checks for hidden weapons. Very rare but occasionally does happen.

"This was found by our eagle eyed officers yesterday on a car park.

"See anything suspicious please call on 101 or report via GMP website live chat."

Over the last seven days, police in the city centre have seized a kitchen knife, hunting knife, and screwdriver, as well as a craft knife to name a few.

Earlier this month it was announced how a special 'task force' was being set up to tackle violent crime in Greater Manchester, including the use of knives.

GMP confirmed it would be seconding detectives and uniformed officers from divisions throughout the region to the team.

The move came after the force received funding from the Home Office of £4m to tackle serious violence, particularly involving knives, and other weapons, focused on young people.

The region, like other areas across the UK, has seen a rise in knife crime. Last year in Greater Manchester there were 1,016 knife crimes resulting in conviction or caution - the highest level since 2011, and the third largest figures behind London and the West Midlands.
