A job is up for grabs where you can live in Buckingham Palace

The Queen is looking for a full-time gardener to tend to the lawns at Buckingham Palace.

The Privy Purse and Treasurers Office has listed the new role, offering a salary of £18,100.

While that doesn't seem like much for a job right in the heart of central London, there are a few pretty nifty benefits.

For a start, you'll live in Buckingham Palace, so there's no Tube fare to factor in, or extra charge for driving into work in your van.

Meals are included too, so outgoings really will be minimal.

The permanent, five-day-per-week job also offers a 15% employer contribution pension scheme and benefits.

But the Palace isn't just looking for someone who's a bit handy with a strimmer.

They're after a qualified gardener with a minimum qualification of Horticulture NVQ 2 (or similar), as well as someone with experience operating a wide range of garden machinery.

You'll also need a clean C1 UK driving license, as you'll be expected to drive a large lorry as part of your duties.

Furthermore, a passion for horticulture is listed as a 'must'.

The Queen's gardens are seen by thousands of visitors and guests every year.

The team of qualified gardeners that look after them also tend to the grounds of Buckingham Palace and St. James's Palace.

Jobs will include keeping the lawns in top condition, "from regular mowing and edging, to raking, re-seeding and top dressing".

The new gardener will also be expected to "maintain the shrub, herbaceous and rose borders, monitor the health of plants, and nurture the growth of young trees and shrubs."

The listing adds: "Helping to shape the future of the gardens, you'll plant new shrubbery, bulbs and seasonal flower displays, ensuring that they continue to provide a spectacular setting for a magnificent historic building, as well for high profile events.

"You’ll aim for perfection and learn from expert colleagues, with the results of your work will be seen, and admired, by a world-wide audience."

The closing date for the job is Wednesday, April 24 and 11:55pm.
