A.J. Green will get second opinion, with surgery a worst-case scenario

Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver A.J. Green isn’t out of the woods just yet.

As if it weren’t bad enough Green could miss the opener in Seattle after finding out he’s out six to eight weeks, a second opinion could always make things worse.

Above, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero revealed Green still isn’t decided on how to proceed.

Bengals.com then noted surgery is still an option:

After Saturday’s X-Rays revealed a sprain, Sunday’s MRI showed the torn ligaments and now the Bengals have to decide how severe the damage is and how to treat it. Surgery would clearly be the worst-case scenario, but he’d probably still be available at some point this season if he went under the knife.

Ian Rapoport pointed out no surgery is needed at this time, but the Bengals still don’t know the full extent of the issue:

That’s enough to elicit a groan from Bengals fans, who already saw just a “ding” sideline first-round tackle Jonah Williams for the year.

With Green, concern about his past injury issues over the years is justified too. All the Bengals can do now is play the waiting game, with Week 1 likely a no-go either way.
