A.J. Green says ‘let me go’ if Bengals don’t want to commit to long-term deal

Cincinnati Bengals wideout A.J. Green doesn’t mince words when it comes to his contract situation.

Green told the media Wednesday that he’s responsible for slowing down contract negotiations with the team until he got healthier.

But he also said this is about a long-term deal with the team and nothing more, per ESPN’s Ben Baby:

“I’m not into a one-year. Give me a long-term (contract) or just let me go.”

He added: “If they’re concerned about that, they don’t need to sign me. It’s whatever. If they’re concerned about me not being able to play 16, then take the risk not signing me and not franchising me. We’ll go from there.”

Green also said he won’t hold out if the Bengals decide to slap the franchise tag on him but the above comments make it pretty clear where things might head if it gets to that point.

Given how the Bengals do business, a long-term deal seems likely — and maybe soon. Green is close to a return and by his own admission is the reason things slowed down on this front.

Wednesday, Green took part in team drills for the first time since July.
