A.J. Green’s injury timetable isn’t derailed despite soreness

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green doesn’t sound like a go for Week 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. But Week 8 in London against the Los Angeles Rams is still on the table.

Head coach Zac Taylor told reporters soreness has entered the equation.

“He had some soreness. That doesn’t mean it’s necessarily a setback, we just have to be smart with him,” Taylor said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “We want to make sure we get him for as much as we can get him this season.

That was after practice and Green telling the media he wasn’t sore and just wanted to take things slow.

But at this point, slow means a possible delay into Week 8, if not Week 10 after the bye. Should that happen, hindsight says the Bengals might’ve been better off throwing Green on injured reserve and keeping depth elsewhere given the continued assault by the injury bug.

Either way, Green doesn’t figure to be on the field in Week 7. And with the current pace, London fans shouldn’t mark Green down as a go just yet against the Rams, either.

The longer this continues, the muddier Green’s contract situation looks as he works through the last year of his deal.
