A.J. Green confirms setback, says he won’t make season debut vs. Ravens

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green has confirmed he won’t play Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, pushing his anticipated return back yet again.

Green seemed like a full-go after a bye week but experienced a setback Wednesday due to ankle swelling. Coaches classified it as a day-to-day situation.

Green was rather frank with the media today when asked about his outlook for Sunday. According to The Athletic’s Paul Dehner Jr., he simply said “probably not” when asked.

The issue now is swelling around the ankle, which limits his range of motion. For Green, it’s a tough predicament because he severely reinjured himself last year while trying to make it back from injury, then got hurt on the first day of training camp this year.

While everyone involved would like to have Green out there with Ryan Finley starting under center, the reality is he’s in a contract year and the team is 0-8.

When Green might return now remains one of the biggest storylines around a team yet to come to terms with him on a new extension.
