HUNTER firm Monteath and Powys has won a State surveying award for its work on the Newcastle Light Rail project.
Founded in 1950, the surveying, project management and planning company won the Sir Thomas Mitchell Award for best overall project at the recent NSW Excellence in Surveying and Spatial Information Awards, attended by close to 500 industry representatives at the Hyatt Regency in Sydney.
The firm was selected from winners of six categories to win the top award, and also won the Infrastructure and Construction Award for the light rail survey works, completed for Downer Engineering and Transport for NSW.

Survey manager Peter Sergeant said it was a "massive effort" for a Newcastle firm competing against multi-nationals.
'It demonstrates we are world-class in our field and it's a huge testament to the hard work and innovation of our firm," he said.
