A huge rooftop Nordic-themed bar and event space could be coming to Edinburgh's Waverley Mall

Edinburgh city centre could see a brand-new bar take up residence on Waverley Mall's roof in the near future.

An application has been posted on the planning portal of Edinburgh Council's website for a rooftop Nordic-themed pop-up bar and event space at the site, which is currently hosting the Neighbourhood marketplace.

Thor's took over the roof of the Mall over the festive period last year, hosting a huge teepee tent filled with wooden benches, cosy fur throws and even a fire pit.

It served a mix of hot and cold cocktails with a Christmas twist, as well as beers from around the world and local ales and stouts.

According to the application on the council website, Thor's are hoping to open a two area venue, with the team writing: "Area A (where we were situated last year) will have a bespoke glasshouse structure built on it to be used as a bar.

"Area B (next to the mall entrance ) will see two canvas tipis creating a bar space alongside an open canvas tipi with food trucks.

"Both areas will be decorated with festoon lighting and will be sympathetic to its world heritage site surroundings."

A final decision on the project will be made on Tuesday 13th October and comments on the project can be made here on the Planning Portal until September 18.
