A huge line of tractors paraded through Cardiff city centre

It's not something you see every day, but on Sunday a huge line of vintage tractors were driven through Cardiff city centre.

The convoy of 75 vehicles was driven from Wenvoe to Cardiff as part of the fundraising for The Royal Welsh Show.

Different areas of Wales are tasked with raising money for the society every year and for the 2021 it is Glamorgan’s turn and this was part of their fundraising efforts.

Around 75 vehicles, led by a carriage and four white horses, joined the "tractor run", taking a route from Goldsland Farm in Wenvoe travelling through Ely, down Pencisely Road in Canton, Cathedral Road, Cardiff Castle and City hall before returning to Wenvoe.

It was designed to highlight the farming community on the city’s doorstep, at a time of what they say is a period of "great uncertainty".

Farmer and campaigner, Abi Reader, a member of the committee, said: "Farmers are facing a difficult time on all fronts. There is uncertainty surrounding Brexit , poor mental health is a growing concern and anti-farming campaigners are causing anxiety for the  industry.

"We want to show the public in our cities the importance of the farming community to the environment , to the countryside and to Wales”.

Committee chair Teleri Glyn Jones said: "Many people in our cities won’t realise that there are farmers all around them, on their doorsteps.

“More than anything, we hope we raised a smile."
