A huge comet will be visible in the night sky this week .
Comet 168P/Hergenrother is set to reach its brightest point on Thursday (August 22), making it visible to the naked eye.
This means amateur stargazers won't have to fork out for expensive equipment to catch a glimpse of the astronomic event.
The comet will look like a large bright star with a tail of light trailing behind it, reports Mirror Online .

What is Comet 168P/Hergenrother?
Comet 168P/Hergenrother was first discovered in 1998.
NASA said: “Comets are cosmic snowballs of frozen gases, rock and dust that orbit the Sun.
“When frozen, they are the size of a small town. When a comet's orbit brings it close to the Sun, it heats up and spews dust and gases into a giant glowing head larger than most planets.
“The dust and gases form a tail that stretches away from the Sun for millions of miles.”
When will it be visible?
On Thursday night, comet 168P/Hergenrother is forecast to reach its brightest point.
On that night, the comet will be at a distance of 1.37 AU from the Sun, and at a distance of 1.13 AU from the Earth.
For those of you in the UK, the comet will be most visible at around 9.15pm, and will disappear at around 4.25am on Friday morning.
How to see the comet
For your best chance of seeing the comet, look just above the eastern horizon at around 9.15pm.
The comet will look like a large bright star, with a tail of light trailing behind it.
