A house in Greater Manchester already has its Christmas decorations up - there's a good reason why

A Tameside man has festooned his house in Christmas decorations 14 weeks before the big day - but it's all for a good reason.

December is still three months away, but Kieran Wainwright has already strung up lights on the front of his Dukinfield home

He's also installed a collection of light-up Santa, reindeer and candy cane decorations.

He says his own experience with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) inspired him to want to spread some premature festive cheer.

The condition is a type of depression that comes and goes seasonally and is often linked to reduced exposure to sunlight during the shorter autumn and winter days.

Kieran says that now the nights are getting darker early, he was keen to bring a little extra light to his street, Fir Tree Lane, and make people smile - particularly this year because of the pandemic.

Kieran has been trimming up early for the past 12 years, and in the past his lights have gone up as early as August.

He says that although he had had some detractors, the reaction from people has been largely positive.

He said: "It starts going dark at 7pm, and my SAD kicks in, and with this pandemic as well.

"Some people have been nasty about it and said it's not December, but I ignore the bad comments and listen to the good ones.

"I feel better in myself. I have ADHD and autism and because of the pandemic, I can't go out where I want, or go on holiday.

"It makes people a little happier."

Kieran has only just started his display, and says he is planning to add more items to it over the coming weeks.
