A hotline for people to report house parties breaking Covid-19 rules has been set up by Gardai in Donegal.
The new service aims to cut the growth of the virus in the county as a number of outbreaks have been linked to parties at beaches, birthday parties across all age groups and schoolkids socially gathering.
A Garda spokeswoman told The Irish Mirror: “In order to make it easier for people to let An Garda Síochána in Donegal know about such events they become aware of we have set up a dedicated reporting Line at Letterkenny Garda Station.
“The number is 074-9167101.
“Anybody who becomes aware of a party or other event that is being organised or who knows that a party or other event is taking place should phone this number.
“People can still contact their local Garda Station if they wish to or in an emergency call 999 or 112 and they can also use the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111 to report matters.

“The information they give will be treated with the strictest confidence and they will not be required to give their name if they do not wish to.
“Details provided will be checked out and if found to be correct appropriate action will be taken.
“If someone reports an event that is being planned we will do everything we can to stop the event happening.

“We must emphasise that it is everyone’s responsibility to protect themselves and their families from the COVID19 virus and the best way to do this is to comply with the Government guidelines.”
On April 29, the 14-day incidence rate of Covid-19 per 100,000 people in Donegal was 293.4 while the rate for the country as a whole was 127.3.
A pop-up test centre will open Milford and a public health media campaign launched as part of measures to curb the rate of infection.
