A HGV wheel fell off on the M6 and smashed through a car windscreen - incredibly the driver walked away with 'minor injuries'

A driver had a miraculous escape after a HGV wheel fell off on the M6 and smashed through his car windscreen.

Police say the tyre 'detached' from the lorry, which was travelling in the opposite direction, bounced over the central reservation and crashed into the oncoming Peugeot.

Remarkably the driver was able to pull over to the hard shoulder, get out of his wrecked car and walk away with just minor injuries.

Police have described him as the 'luckiest person in the world right now'.

Lancs Road Police tweeted: "The driver of this car is the luckiest person in the world right now.

"This tyre detached from an HGV on the M6 at jct28, crossed the central barrier & struck an oncoming vehicle.

"How they got it to the shoulder and got out is beyond us.
