Almost twenty years after Jeffrey Tate brought Wagner’s Ring Cycle to Adelaide in 1998, he returns as principal guest conductor and artistic adviser of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
He directs an epic romantic trio: Wagner’s Die Meistersinger Act 1; Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 3, performed by Australian pianist Jayson Gillham; and Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben. Beethoven’s third, Eroica, provided the inspiration for Ein Heldenlebel, translated as A Hero’s Life, and tells his life story with a cast of musicians and orchestral effects.
