A helmet-less Torey Krug delivered the hit of the NHL playoffs against the Blues

Torey Krug had no qualms with sacrificing his body during Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final.

In the third period of the Boston Bruins’ 4-2 win over the St. Louis Blues, the defenseman delivered an insane hit after losing his helmet.

Krug skated the length of the ice and demolished Blues winger Robert Thomas. And I repeat: He did this without a helmet.

Krug lost his lid after jostling with David Perron in front of the Bruins’ net. As they bodied each other for position, Perron ended up ripping off Krug’s helmet.

But that didn’t deter Krug from providing the biggest hit of the NHL playoffs:

Krug talked about it after the game:

Here’s a look at the moment where Perron and Krug were fighting in front of the net, and Krug ended up without a helmet.

There’s an excellent photo of the dust-up.

It’s a bit early to be comparing the hit to a moment as big as Bobby Orr’s goal, but folks from Boston did it anyway. Fans and media members were quick to lionize Krug on Twitter.
