A Haryana village where maximum number of youths have left country for better job options

JIND: In the search of work and jobs, maximum youths from Durana village of Jind district have taken flights to foreign countries in the last few years, said villagers.

When one visits the village, merely one or two youths will be seen there as maximum have left the country for the want of jobs. When TOI visited the village, people said that after completing class X11, the youth start looking for foreign countries and most of the young generation have left the village in the last few years. There are a number of luxurious mansions in this village but deserted streets may be seen and only elderly people are seen walking or sitting outside the houses. It is pertinent to mention that Haryana is on top in unemployment following which opposition parties have been targeting the present BJP-JJP coalition government.

Ratan Singh said: "I have three children and all have gone to foreign countries for jobs and a better future".

Similarly, Tej Singh, another native of village said the one who completes his or her class 12 studies takes the foreign route. "I have a family of 30 people in this village and 12 have gone to foreign countries. My daughter was a topper of Kurukshetra University but she too had to leave the country for want of better job opportunities. We are in pain that she has left us but it seems youths are hapless to take such steps," he added.

Sandeep Singh said one or two youths are leaving the village every month for foreign countries. There are luxurious mansions in the village but lying empty without wards. Children are sending money from abroad but they are not ready to come back, he said.

Sarbjeet Kaur, woman sarpanch of the village said after completing better education the youths are not getting jobs accordingly. Youths are being forced to leave the village and country.

Villagers told the TOI that there is around a population of 2,500 in the village and Sikh community contributes 30 percent of the total population. The villagers claimed that of the total population 300 youths including girls and boys have left the village so far. This Durana village falls under Alewa block located 35 kilometers away from Jind district headquarters from where youths have gone to America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand and England, said villagers.

Notably, Haryana has highest unemployment rate in the country. Moreover, reportedly till July 31, 2023 as many as 5.44 lakh youths in Haryana have registered themselves with employment exchanges at district level. Jind district has topped in unemployment as -52,089 youths have enrolled themselves with employment department district followed by 47593 in Kaithal, 46453 in Hisar, 42446 in Karnal and 39786 in Rohtak and 34642 in Yamunanagar.

Talking to TOI, former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and leader of opposition (LOP) said that the state was at the top in development works, per person capita income and other sectors during the stint of Congress govt, but now it has become number one in unemployment and crime under the BJP-JJP coalition government.

"Investment would be brought to the state besides providing better job opportunities for youths. The state will be number one in every sector again if Congress voted to power," claimed Hooda.
