'A guy I'm dating hasn't asked me one question in three days - I'm fed up'

The world of dating can be exciting, as you get to know a new potential partner and learn all their quirks and habits. Unfortunately for romantics hoping for love at first sight, modern dating often means kissing a lot of frogs before you find the one.

Casual dating apps and 'situationship' culture are rife, leaving single people struggling to navigate the complex world of mixed signals.

One single woman took to Mumsnet after a man she was seeing failed to ask her any questions about herself in three days. She was unsure if she just had "ridiculously high standards" or this was a massive red flag.

She went on a first date with the 38-year-old the week before that "went really well" and was her "best [date] by far".

He then jetted off on a skiing holiday with his son but continued to text her, telling the poster all about his daily activities in what she called an "onslaught" as well as "updates on how his son is finding it" and "photos of the slopes".

However, there's a catch - he hasn't asked her a single question in three days.

"He asks me no questions at all," she said. "It's been three days and I've scrolled back through the messages and he hasn't even asked the simplest 'How are you/how was work'."

The woman added: "I'm not sure if he's just wrapped up in the holiday or genuinely not bothered."

Her date wasn't like this face to face but the woman mentioned some moments of one-up-man-ship. She didn't want to write him off yet and added: "I genuinely like him, this aside. Help!"

This woman isn't alone as according to research by dating app Badoo, a third of singles have experienced this total lack of questions - and it puts almost half of us off having another date.

Dating expert Hayley Quinn told The Mirror: "It's a red flag if someone's contributing very little to a conversation or being evasive around meeting. However, it's more excusable if someone is sharing, just not in the way that you'd like.

"If you find communication doesn't flow easily, this could point to incompatibility rather than the other person being emotionally unavailable.

"Recent research from broadband provider Zen also shows that poor communication is people's top pet peeve in potential dates. So if you'd like date 1 to translate into date 2 focus on asking interesting questions about them, as well as sharing an insight into your life."

"It sounds like he's the type that's 100% self involved tbh," responded one user. "He's not asking how you are because he doesn't care how things are with you, he only cares about how impressed and interested you are in what he's been doing."

"Maybe [it's acceptable] as he's away but could be a bad sign. Why not add in something like 'my day was ok by the way. I did xxxx' - see if that prompts him to realise he should be asking," offered a helpful commenter.

Others believed this was just down to his holiday excitement, one said: "He is just sharing his holiday updates. When are you seeing him next?"

A mum added: "I took my daughter on [holiday] and I'm fairly certain nearly every message I sent to my DH was gushing about the holiday because I was just so excited and wrapped up in it all - it could just be that."

In a follow up comment, the original woman said: "I think maybe it's become more pronounced as he's gone away, he did ask more when he was in the UK.

"Not showing an interest in the others life is a deal breaker for me, an all too common one, and being able to hold a conversation with mutual interest I'm finding is a rare skill in old men."
