How to complete A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping in Disney Dreamlight Valley
To complete the A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping quest, you must help Cogsworth and Lumiere set up a special party for you. There are many tasks to get done in this one, so here's a full breakdown of how to finish all key steps.
Go to the cellar in the garden to find the Fine Cutlery
First up, head to the garden so you can enter the cellar and grab the Fine Cutlery. You've never been to the cellar before this, so finding it can be a bit tough. As soon as you walk down the stairs into the garden, make a sharp left to find another set of stairs leading down. Proceed down them and interact with the door to grab the Fine Cutlery.
Head back to the Realm entrance and approach the black tables near the wall on the left side of the piano. Interact with the sparkling spot to place the Fine Cutlery down. Next, meet up with Lumiere to see if he needs any help.
Explore the castle to find the Charcuterie Board ingredients
Lumiere tasks you with making a Charcuterie Board, but first, you must track down five key ingredients around the vast castle. Here are all of the items you need and where each one can be found.
- Oyster – Can be found in a sparkling crate in the back of the secret passage room where you previously made Fireplace Fuel during The Haunting of Beast's Castle quest.
- Creepy Crawly Crab – In the same crate as the Oyster.
- Chilling Cucumber – On a table in the library, close to the spot where you placed the Globe during the Belle, Book, and Candle quest.
- Booyère Cheese – On a desk in the corner of the library, surrounded by stacks of books, and close to the fireplace.
- Screamed Butter – On a table in the library, right behind the couches facing the fireplace.
Cook the Charcuterie Board
Head over to the cooking station in the secret passageway and interact with it. Select the Charcuterie Board recipe and toss in all five items you just found around the castle. Once it's made, head back over to the party area near the main entrance and interact with the tables by the piano to place the Charcuterie Board. Have a chat with Cogsworth afterward to see what you should tackle next.
Find the materials in the garden
Cogsworth wants some fun decorations for the party, so it's up to you to find the materials in the garden to craft some Rose Garlands. Head out to the garden to clear away all obstacles you find and pick up any materials you spot on the ground. In total, you need:
- Eight Castle Softwood – Can be found on the ground throughout the garden, is dropped when you break statues with your Royal Pickaxe, and drops when you clear away Night Thorns.
- Three Rainbow Rose Bouquet – You already have these leftover from completing the A Growing Mystery quest.
- Three Castle Detritus – Found in a small sack in the corner of the maze in the garden.
With all of the items gathered, head over to the crafting station in the garden. Select the Rose Garlands recipe on the Functional Items page to craft the decorations you need.
Place the Rose Garlands in the hall near the windows
Head back over to the party area near the Realm entrance and approach the arched windows by the hallway. Walk over to the sparkling spot where Cogsworth is standing right under them, press the Interact button that appears, and place the Rose Garlands onto the windows. This step is a bit tricky since you'd likely expect to be looking for a sparkling spot around the windows, not on Cogsworth.
Once the Rose Garland is in place, chat with Cogsworth to let him know everything is ready to go.
Put on the Masquerade Mask you found
Open your Inventory, navigate to your Wardrobe, select the Cogsworth icon, and put on the Masquerade Mask you previously found during the Belle, Book, and Candle quest. Walk over to Lumiere and Cogsworth under the Rose Garlands and use your Phone to take a picture.
Listen to Lumiere and Cogsworth reminisce together afterward, then chat with them. Lumiere is now ready to move into the valley, but Cogsworth still has some work left to do before he's willing to join. For now, though, return to the valley to unlock Lumiere. Chat with him once you're there, then head inside Belle and the Beast's castle in your valley to reunite him with them.
Bring the letter to Cogsworth
Have a talk with the group, then grab a letter from the Beast asking Cogsworth to come to the valley. Head back into the Beauty and the Beast Realm to give it to him. After chatting with Cogsworth, return to the valley once more to officially unlock him as a villager. Head back to the Beast's castle one last time, and chat with Cogsworth again to officially finish the A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping quest.
