A Greggs in the centre of Farnworth has shut down

A Greggs in the centre of Farnworth has shut down.

The bakery, on High Street, in the centre of the town, opened its doors for the last time on Thursday.

Signs were displayed in the windows of the shutters yesterday informing customers of the news.

The sign read: "Sorry we're closing on 18th April, but you can visit your nearest shop at Walkden Ellesmere Centre."

It is understood staff employed at the bakery have been offered positions at other Greggs branches.

Earlier this year Greggs reported a surge in profits, with sales climbing to nearly 10% from the start of 2019 to February 16.

The bakery cited its successes to the fanfare surrounding the release of their vegan sausage roll in January.
