A Greatest Showman outdoor cinema screening and singalong could be coming to Swansea's Singleton Park this summer

It's a feelgood film - and people will be feeling very good indeed if they get the chance to see this blockbuster later this summer.

If lockdown eases in time, then a screening of The Greatest Showman is planned for Singleton Park in Swansea when viewers will be encouraged to sing-a-long with songs from the show.

The musical, which sold out cinemas all over the world on its release in 2017, is inspired by the imagination of PT Barnum and tells the story of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a world wide sensation.

Staring Hugh Jackman, the film was nominated for a clutch of Golden Globes.

The event has already been advertised on social media, but Swansea Council says discussions around the event are still ongoing - and it will depend on where the country is with the easing of lockdown regulations.

Boris Johnson yesterday unveiled a roadmap out of lockdown restrictions in England that would make life 'incomparably better' by summer.

But Wales' deputy chief medical officer has said that he would be "very surprised" if all restrictions in Wales are eased by June 21.

That would raise questions over other events earmarked for Singleton Park this summer.

Indie rockers Foals are due to play the venue on Friday, June 4, followed by X-Factor runner up Olly Murs the following day.

However, if the show does go ahead on August 8 as advertised, it is due to begin shortly after sunset, with families encouraged to bring a picnic, and their own seating.

A spokesman for Swansea Council said: “We are in discussions with Adventure Cinema about them staging a screening at a date to be confirmed this summer.

"All events will naturally be dependent on the government guidance at the time.”
