'A good arrogance' - Stephen Warnock 'not surprised' by Harvey Elliott's Liverpool involvement this season

Stephen Warnock is the latest pundit to heap praise on Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott, as the 18-year-old becomes a key figure under Jurgen Klopp.

The Fulham academy graduate has featured in all three of the Reds' Premier League games so far and he played 90 minutes against both Burnley and Chelsea.

After spending last season on loan with Blackburn Rovers, Elliott returned to Liverpool for pre-season and was a standout performer as he took on a new role in midfield.

He's impressed the likes of Klopp, Mohamed Salah, supporters and pundits and he's already cementing a starting spot in the Reds' line-up.

Former Liverpool defender and pundit, Warnock, is not surprised by Harvey Elliott's involvement so far this season, as he told LFCTV : “No, because of his form, not only for Blackburn last year but in pre-season.

“Whether that changed Jurgen Klopp’s mind about going out and buying another midfielder after losing [Georginio] Wijnaldum? I think it will have played a key role.

“He has come back a man, he looks like he has filled out, he looks hungry and I think we always knew that anyway about him.

“What I like about him in terms of his passing, he is always looking forward and he is always thinking how I can hurt the opposition.

“He travels with the ball, he looks comfortable with the ball at his feet and I always say about him, he has arrogance but it is a good arrogance.

“There is a real trust in himself that he is capable of breaking into this Liverpool team and holding his own.”

There was some doubt over Elliott's availability for Sunday's clash against Leeds after he returned early from the England U21 squad on Monday through injury.

Klopp has since provided an update as he told the club website earlier this week: “Harvey is fine again."

The reds boss also confirmed that Roberto Firmino and Takumi Minamino are continuing to recover from injuries, while James Milner is yet to resume team training.
