A Glasgow guitar shop is offering left-handers free lessons for International Left-handers Day

It's not always easy being left-handed. There are never any scissors for you, you can't use fountain pens without smudging everywhere and musical instruments are definitely trickier to use.

However, in honour of International Left-handers Day tomorrow, a Glasgow guitar shop is doing its part to make life that bit easier for the 10% of the world that are lefties.

guitarguitar Glasgow are offering free lessons and advice for left-handed beginners, and a free re-stringing service for left-handers this weekend (Saturday 17 and Sunday 18).

Although 10-12% of the world’s population is left-handed, many left-handed guitarists opt to play right-handed - including Noel Gallagher, Elvis Costello and Mark Knopfler.

Historically, this is due to manufacturers only making limited numbers of left-handed instruments. However, guitarguitar want to help develop the next Paul McCartney or Kurt Cobain by offering free left-handed guitar and bass lessons as part of their Lefty Week.

Graham Bell, Co-Founder of guitarguitar, said:   “So many of our favourite lefty musicians have had to learn to play as righties, and we want to make that’s a thing of the past.

“For the last 15 years, we have supported left-handers by stocking the largest range of left-handed guitars in the UK, but we want to do more. That’s why we’re celebrating Lefty Week with free lessons for left-handed beginners, showing them they have nothing to fear by playing guitar the way that feels most natural to them.”

So if you're one of those rare left-handed unicorns and think it's finally time to pick up that guitar, you won't want to miss out on this offer!
