A giant new beer garden has appeared beneath tram tracks in Manchester

There's a new outdoor food and drink destination in Manchester city centre - and you might have gone straight past it without noticing.

The Viadux Social Club has appeared beneath the tram lines behind Manchester Central and near Deansgate-Castlefield, filling the arches with wooden pallet furniture.

A DJ booth inside an old VW camper van is a focal point, along with a huge wooden street food truck.

Tables and chairs have either been built by hand from salvaged materials, or are vintage finds spruced up.

Viadux was launched last year as an indoor events space - but after Covid-19 forced the doors shut, the owners have expanded into the space outside.

The arches were once used as the Bauer Millet car showroom, before briefly becoming Project B.

The pet-friendly space is now operated by Tokyo Industries, the same team behind Impossible, South and Factory.

Tokyo have also recently acquired both the Deaf Institute and Gorilla, which were facing permanent closure.

Socially distanced events will take place on Saturdays, with the first acts confirmed as Clint Boon, Graeme Park, K-Klass and Allister Whitehead.

Food will be provided by This Charming Naan, an Indian street food operator who pitched up at Hatch just before lockdown began.

The Smiths-inspired menu includes brilliant dishes like Girlfriend in a Korma, How Saag is Now, and Vada in a Tutu.

Normal opening hours for Viadux Social Club will be 4pm until 11pm, although on sunny days the space will open earlier.
