A gender neutral kids shoe shop is coming to The Trafford Centre

A gender neutral shoe shop for kids is coming to the Trafford Centre and aims to deliver a shopping experience that fosters self-expression by moving away from the traditional girl and boy categorisation.

Fashion footwear retailer Schuh is opening its first standalone kids’ store in Manchester and will be presenting collections by brand not gender. The aim is that for the layout to deliver a shopping experience that allows children to freely express themselves.

With over 120 stores in the UK, Ireland and online, Manchester's Trafford Centre was the chosen retail destination for the brand extension. Zoe Inman, Centre Director at Trafford Centre said: “We’re delighted to welcome schuh Kids to Trafford Centre this month. Following the success of the existing schuh store, the new kids’ standalone is an incredible growth opportunity for both schuh and the centre, bringing both loyal and new customers to the Northwest."

Schuh Kids will open on Saturday August 13 at Trafford Centre, located next door to schuh’s existing store on the upper level. This will be the second kids’ store schuh has opened featuring its newly designed kids’ concept and the first in Manchester.

Fitted with tactile fabrics and fun furniture for mini shoppers, little ones will also be entertained with visually stimulating displays and an interactive gaming station. Payment in the new store is via mobile transactions at the point of sale, creating a frictionless customer experience.

Opening just in time for ‘back to school’ shopping, the schuh back to school collection offers an extensive range of products with access to the best brands and the latest styles. The store is fully stocked with classic Dr. Martens and school favourite Kickers – with a variety of iconic styles now available in vegan options.

The store will also be stocked with the exclusive schuh own-label range - with prices starting at £25.00. Customers will get £5.00 off school bags when purchasing one with of a pair of shoes.

Donna MacLeod, Kids Operations Manager said: “Opening a new store always causes a certain amount of anticipation but even more so when it means we can be neighbours with our existing schuh store. This standalone store will allow us to deliver a shopping experience for our Manchester customers that is totally dedicated to kids, making schuh the go-to destination for children's shoes all year round”.

Schuh also hosts a takeback scheme ‘Too Big For Your Boots’, encouraging parents and kids to bring down their old, worn shoes in return for £5 off a brand-new pair. The £5 off vouchers are then redeemable online or in-store with their next purchase. Working with Recyclatex, shoe donations are collected from store resulting in approximately 98% of all components and materials being reused.

For every tonne collected, the funds raised are used to support schuh sustainability partner of choice, the World Land Trust, and their Plant a Tree programme. Its aim is to essentially create a circular economy with an effort to make footwear more sustainable. Schuh has now planted 9,527 trees (as of December 21) as a direct result of the nationwide takeback scheme.
