Galleries' Night is returning to Bangkok for a fifth year, bringing together art lovers and inquisitive minds alike for a two-night exploration of over 50 galleries and art spaces.
On Feb 9-10, from 5pm until late, visitors can enjoy contemporary art, screenings, dance and painting performances plus much more -- basically turning the nights into a long celebration of the Bangkok art scene. The Feb 9 show will devote itself to galleries in the Silom/Riverside area while the next day's exhibits will focus on the Sukhumvit area and includes a special afternoon event for children at the Bangkok Art and Cultural Centre (BACC).
Virtually all leading galleries in the city join the nocturnal event, for instance, WTF, Tars, RMA Institute, 100 Tonon, Yelo House, the Jim Thompson Art Centre, Numthong Gallery, Nova Contemporary, Bangok CityCity, Speedy Grandma, Patani Studio and many more.
Dedicated tuk-tuks will help whisk visitors between galleries, with the tuk-tuks themselves acting as mobile art pieces, featuring 10 short films by local and international artists of the LIV_id collective. This year, more than 14,000 people are expected to join the adventure, which has become a notable highlight of Bangkok's cultural scene since it's launch in 2013. Inspired by France's "La Nuit Blanche" (The White Nights Of Paris), Galleries' Night invites its participants to rediscover the city's incredible art scene in a new and unconventional way. The many offerings of each gallery in conjunction with the cool night sky and the city streets' neon lights are sure to create a colourful, festive and unforgettable experience.
Audiences can navigate between the galleries using the Galleries' Night app, available for free on both Google Play and Apple stores. Additionally, more than 80 volunteers will be present throughout the exhibitions, answering any questions or concerns.
The French embassy will launch the event on Feb 9 at a venue to be announced.
Admission to the galleries and the dedicated tuk-tuk rides are free.
