A further 18 people have died in Greater Manchester's hospitals after testing positive for coronavirus

The NHS has confirmed the deaths of 18 more patients in hospitals in Greater Manchester who had tested positive for coronavirus.

Nationally, a further 309 hospital deaths were reported on Thursday.

Of those, 42 were in hospitals in the north west region.

Six further deaths have been recorded at Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, with five more at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.

Three further deaths were recorded at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust and at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust respectively.

A single, further death was reported at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust.

The total number of coronavirus deaths at hospital trusts in Greater Manchester, as of February 18, are:

Bolton NHS Foundation Trust - 596

Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust - 9

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust - 1,070

NHS Nightingale Hospital North West - 6

Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust - 1,483

Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust - 7

Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust - 463

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust - 514

Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust - 543

The Christie NHS Foundation Trust - 26

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust - 731

The latest figures bring Greater Manchester's coronavirus hospital death toll to 5,448.

In a statement, the NHS said: "A further 309 people, who tested positive for the coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 80,424.

"Patients were aged between 21 and 101 years old.

"All except 11 (aged 42 to 96 years old) had known underlying health conditions.

"Date of death ranges from 20 December 2020 to 17 February 2021, with the majority being on or after 14 February.

"Their families have been informed."

The NHS publishes the number of patients who have died in hospital and tested positive for COVID-19 in England. 

Since April 28 last year, it also reports the number of patient deaths where there has been no COVID-19 positive test result, but where COVID-19 is documented as a direct or underlying cause of death in the death certification process.
