A funeral is held for Todd in dramatic Coronation Street scenes

Next week a funeral is held for Todd Grimshaw on Coronation Street, but all is not what it seems.

Todd is faking his own death after getting embroiled with a gangster and he's reappeared in Weatherfield after being on the run for three years to meet his mum in secret.

As part of the scheme Eileen Grimshaw visits a mortuary to identify her son's body and insists on going alone.

As Todd begs Eileen to go along with his plan, Billy Mayhew is horrified to hear from Sean Tully that his ex could be dead.

Eileen tells a relieved Billy that it wasn’t Todd’s body in the mortuary.

And she confesses to friend and neighbour Mary Taylor that her youngest son is alive and well.

But Todd is furious with his mum for ruining his plan.

Gangster Mick is after Todd (ITV)

He explains to her she’s left him with no option but to disappear and she’ll never see him again.

A devastated Eileen tells Todd she’s scraped together £1,300 so he can pay off the gangster he ripped off and get on with his life.

But florist Mary has other ideas, showing Eileen a hearse complete with a coffin and flowers bearing Todd’s name, leaving viewers wondering if they can carry off the hoax.

Previously played by Bruno Langley, the bad boy character is now played by Gareth Pierce and Eileen, played by Sue Cleaver, has returned home from her trip to Thailand visiting her eldest son Jason to new turmoil.

Billy and Sean hired a private investigator who found out Todd and his friend Safia had ripped off a local gangster and that Todd had gone to ground.

The last time Todd was on the cobbles was back in 2017 when he fled with his and Billy's foster daughter Summer Spellman after her grandmother attempted to get custody of her.

Summer eventually returned without him and revealed that he was on the run from police.
