The NFL released its 2020 compensatory pick and the usual suspects were on the list. The Patriots, Ravens, and Eagles all got extra picks per usual. Twelve other teams joined them. What follows below is a breakdown of what players teams lost and what players signed in the 2019 offseason. That’s one of the major ways the league figures out what compensatory picks to release. We also have the round the team has their comp picks and what number that pick is overall.

New England Patriots: 4 Picks
Pick Positions: 3 – 98, 3 – 100, 6 – 212, 6 – 213
Free Agents Lost: Malcom Brown, Trent Brown, Trey Flowers, Cordarrelle Patterson, Chris Hogan, Eric Rowe, LaAdrian Waddle
Free Agents Signed: Brandon Bolden
The Patriots lost more free agents than they gained and still won the AFC East again. The Patriots have the most comp picks in the draft and two third-round picks which they will probably trade anyway.

Denver Broncos: 3 Picks
Pick Positions: 5 – 178, 7 – 252, 7 – 254
Free Agents Lost: Shaquil Barrett, Trumaine Brock, Max Garcia, Matt Paradis, Bradley Roby, Billy Turner
Free Agents Signed: Bryce Callahan, Kareem Jackson, Ju’Wuan James
John Elway gets some extra picks to play around with but those picks are pretty late in the draft. They are essentially blindfolded dart throws. The Broncos lost a lot of players in free agency in 2019.

Houston Texans: 3 Picks
Pick Positions: 3 – 97, 7 – 248, 7 – 250
Free Agents Lost: Christian Covington, Kareem Jackson, Kendall Lamm, Tyrann Mathieu
Free Agents Signed: Bradley Roby
The Texans were awarded the highest compensatory pick. That happened because Tyrann Mathieu signed a big deal in Kansas City and they only signed Bradley Roby.

Minnesota Vikings: 3 Picks
Pick Positions: 3 – 105, 7 – 249, 7 – 253
Free Agents Lost: Tom Compton, Nick Easton, Sheldon Richardson, Trevor Siemian
Free Agents Signed: Shamar Stephen
Minnesota has a third and then two sevens. They have to unload a bunch of players this season due to their cap situation so the extra third should help out.

New York Giants: 3 Picks
Pick Positions: 3 – 99, 7 – 247, 7 – 255
Free Agents Lost: Jamon Brown, Landon Collins, Mario Edwards, Josh Mauro, B.W. Webb, Kerry Wynn
Free Agents Signed: Markus Golden, Golden Tate
The Giants knew they were getting a third after losing Landon Collins in free agency. They also landed those two extra seventh-round picks. The Giants will be choosing Mr. Irrelevant.

Philadelphia Eagles: 3 Picks
Pick Positions: 3 – 103, 4 – 145, 4 -146
Free Agents Lost: Nick Foles, Jordan Hicks, Golden Tate
Free Agents Signed: None
Howie Roseman didn’t even sign a free agent that counted against the compensatory picks. They have 3 picks where they could see someone fall to them in the draft.

Seattle Seahawks: 3 Picks
Pick Positions: 3 – 101, 4 – 144. 6 – 214
Free Agents Lost: Justin Coleman, Brett Hundley, Shamar Stephen, J.R. Sweezy, Earl Thomas
Free Agents Signed: Mike Iupati, Jason Myers
It’s funny because a kicker counted against their compensatory picks. It looks like they made some smart decisions letting people to reload their team with younger players.

Baltimore Ravens: 2 Picks
Pick Positions: 3 – 106, 4 – 143
Free Agents Lost: John Brown, C.J. Mosley, Za’Darius Smith, Terrell Suggs
Free Agents Signed: Mark Ingram, Earl Thomas
Eric DeCosta continues the tradition of getting the Ravens some extra picks in the draft. He did so while picking up Mark Ingram and Earl Thomas who both contributed to the Ravens great record this season. Baltimore has the compensatory formula down pat.

Miami Dolphins: 2 Picks
Pick Positions: 4 – 141, 7 – 251
Free Agents Lost: Brandon Bolden, Frank Gore, Ja’Wuan James, Cameron Wake
Free Agents Signed: Ryan Fitzpatrick, Eric Rowe
The Dolphins get to add two more picks to the many picks they already have in the 2020 draft. Really they just let older players go and got their starting quarterback and a good cornerback who fits their system.

Chicago Bears: 1 Pick
Pick Positions: 4 – 140,
Free Agents Lost: Adrian Amos, Josh Bellamy, Bryce Callahan, Eric Kush
Free Agents Signed: Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Cordarrelle Patterson, Buster Skrine
The Bears get one extra pick and that comes after signing Dix, Patterson, and Skrine. That’s not a bad deal. They’ll need those players to step up this season if they want to return to the playoffs.
Dallas Cowboys: 1 Pick
Pick Positions: 5 – 179
Free Agents Lost: Cole Beasley, Geoff Swaim, Damien Wilson
Free Agents Signed: Randall Cobb, Christian Covington
The Cowboys get a fifth-round pick and they replaced their slot receiver who also has some familiarity with their new head coach Mike McCarthy. Maybe Cobb hangs around this season.

Los Angeles Rams: 1 Pick
Pick Positions: 3 – 104
Free Agents Lost: Lamarcus Joyner, Roger Saffold
Free Agents Signed: Clay Matthews
Les Snead has great hair and he knew what he was going when he let Joyner and Saffold walk. Matthews wasn’t great for the Rams but every team needs a veteran presence. The Rams got a third-round pick and they are desperate for draft capital after going all in the past two seasons.

Pittsburgh Steelers: 1 Pick
Pick Positions: 3 – 102
Free Agents Lost: Le’Veon Bell, Jesse James
Free Agents Signed: Steven Nelson
This one was obvious. The Steelers’ third-round pick comes from losing Bell.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 1 Pick
Pick Positions: 4 – 139
Free Agents Lost: Kwon Alexander, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Adam Humphries, Adarius Taylor
Free Agents Signed: Shaquil Barrett, Breshad Perriman, Bradley Pinion
The Bucs sacrificed some players who didn’t end up performing for their new teams and somehow got both Barrett and Perriman who performed well for Tampa this year. Now they need to figure out a way to keep both of those players going into next year.

Washington Redskins: 1 Pick
Pick Positions: 4 – 142
Free Agents Lost: Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Jamison Crowder, Ty Nsekhe, Preston Smith
Free Agents Signed: Landon Collins, Ereck Flowers, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
The Redskins would probably have received even more picks if they didn’t try to make a splash in the free-agent market. That’s the risk they took and it probably didn’t pay off. There’s a reason Bruce Allen isn’t in charge anymore.
