A full debut for Andrew Omobamidele and Jamie McGrath returns as Kenny shuffles pack

Andrew Omobamidele will make his first Republic of Ireland start as Stephen Kenny shuffles his pack for the visit of Serbia on Tuesday night.

Ireland's World Cup hopes are all but over following a limp 1-1 draw with Azerbaijan on Saturday, and the manager has brought in four, including the Lucan defender.

Dubliner Jeff Hendrick is restored to the midfield, where he will be joined by Alan Browne and Jamie McGrath, who makes his second senior start.

18-year-old Omobamidele made his senior bow as a substitute during last week's 2-1 defeat in Portugal and performed admirably against waves of Portuguese attacks.

He was pressed into action by Dara O'Shea's injury, which West Bromwich Albion today confirmed was a broken ankle that will keep the defender out for six months.

Captain Seamus Coleman was preferred to the Norwich City teenager for Saturday's meeting with Azerbaijan, but an injury picked up in that game saw him depart the squad.

Jayson Molumby, Aaron Connolly and Troy Parrott are the other three to drop out, Connolly with injury, following the morale-sapping draw at the weekend.

Kenny also confirmed that West Brom striker Callum Robinson wasn't considered for a starting place as he still hasn't fully recovered from a bout of Covid-19.

He does, however, take his place on the bench alongside Liam Scales, the former Shamrock Rovers defender who recently joined Celtic for a League of Ireland record €600,000 fee .
