A fresh look at the last two decades

Point in time: Palais Royale in Newcastle during the bad weather associated with the Pasha Bulker storm of 2007. Picture: Pete Smith

This week's photo featured in Pictures of the Past in Weekender is recent history.

Pete Smith of Metford took this photo of the legendary Palais Royale in Newcastle during the bad weather associated with the Pasha Bulker storm of 2007.

The wonderful old landmark, where so many Novocastrian romances began, was looking haggard.

The photo is likely to be published  this year in our proposed book, Newcastle and the Hunter, by Ourselves.

We, that is, me (Greg Ray) and my wife and co-publisher Sylvia Ray, are asking people to contribute their own photos taken between New Year's Eve 1999 and this year, 2020.

The photos don't have to be professional quality, and they can be of anything, from landscapes to people; from iconic scenes to humorous situations.

We've chosen this path because this is a book we can produce while "locked down" and because we are interested in the "survivability" of digital images, compared to those taken with traditional film.

We'd like to record the eventful first 20 years of this century and hope Newcastle Herald readers will find the idea interesting.

Details can be found on our website at phototimetunnel.com or photos can be emailed direct to us at greg@phototimetunnel.com.
