A free outdoor screening of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is coming to Bristol

The original Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is arguably one of the greatest family films of all time.

Roald Dahl's tale of a boy from a poor family who finds one of five golden tickets hidden inside a chocolate bar wrapper which admits him to the eccentric, magical factory is a truly iconic one.

It features plenty of classic scenes which have stood the test of time, including the psychedelic boat ride, Violet ballooning into a blueberry and Charlie and grandpa Joe sipping on Wonka's Fizzy Lifting Drink.

Considering it was released in 1971, you probably didn't think you'd get a chance to see it on the big screen again.

But you would have been wrong - as Mel Stuart's fantastic adaptation is going to be shown on the outdoor screen at We The Curious in Millennium Square.

When is the screening?

The screening, hosted by Big Screen Bristol, will take place on Wednesday April 17 at midday, making for the perfect Easter holiday activity with the kids.

Do you need a ticket?

Nope, simply pack a picnic and head over to Millennium Square before the film begins.

Deckchair seating will be provided on a first come, first served basis so feel free to bring along your own blankets, camping chairs or beanbags to make sure you get a comfy seat.

And remember to dress for the weather - pack waterproof and warm clothing just in case.
