A US government agency has had to deny there is evidence of mermaids after people mistook a fictional TV show for a factual documentary. Quizzical viewers wrote to the US National Ocean Service about the existence of the mythical creatures after they saw Mermaids: The Body Found on the Animal Planet Network. The US agency had to issue a straight-faced statement saying: "No evidence of aquatic humanoids has ever been found." Little room for confusion there, then.
