A first look inside one of London's revamped post-covid boutique fitness studios

News last week that the Government would not allow gyms to reopen on July 4 along with pubs and restaurants was a huge blow to London's fitness scene and its loyal disciples.

The industry may not have too much longer to wait, however, after Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden suggested last week that the government was hoping to reopen gyms and leisure facilities in mid-July.

So what will the new experience look like?

Boutique fitness studio 1Rebel, known for its cult conditioning concept 'Reshape', has shared a sneak peek of what your next workout will look like in the photos below of its newly revamped Victoria studio.

The new look studio features self-scanning temperature checks at the entrance, along with hand sanitiser stations and new perspex screens mounted at reception to help gym-goers adhere to safety guidelines.

Screens have also been placed in between each piece of equipment, and there are new improved ventilation systems, which the studio says are "superior to that of an aeroplane."

The treadmill experience will feel slightly different under the new setup.

As will the studio's popular 'Ride' classes, as all spin bikes are now more spaced out and also feature screens fitted to them.

1Rebel Co-Founder James Balfour said: "Over the past weeks and months we have made a host of changes, at huge cost, that make us far safer than the average pub or plane.

"In the midst of a health crisis, government policy makers have not considered gyms as a priority or extension to the health system showing a huge lack of understanding of the industry contribution to society. Without urgent leadership this will cripple our industry.

"As Boris mentioned, there is no zero risk version of this, and we should be encouraging the UK to get moving again as soon as possible, for both mental and physical health."

The studio says government representatives have agreed to visit the Victoria studio and that it hopes to reopen in "early July." Watch this space.
