A fire broke out at the Angels’ spring training stadium, and it had nothing to do with Mike Trout

A massive fire broke out at the Angels’ spring training stadium, and it was only the second most noteworthy thing to happen around the organization on Tuesday.

It’s been that kind of day.

Just hours after news of Mike Trout’s record-shattering contract extension, reporters at Tempe Diablo Stadium — the Angels’ Cactus League home — noticed smoke coming from the ballpark.

It turned out that a grounds crew tractor had caught fire in front of the first-base dugout. It was a scary scene, but everybody was OK.

Fortunately, this fire appears to have had nothing to do with Mike Trout and wasn’t sparked by some rogue agent of the Philadelphia Phillies. Having witnessed a bee swarm first-hand at Tempe Diablo Stadium, nothing surprises me about dangers emerging at that ballpark.

It was just an equipment failure this time. On the bright side: The Angels can probably afford to replace the tractor.
