A fifth person in Leeds has tested positive for coronavirus

Two further Leeds residents have tested positive for coronavirus, government officials have confirmed.

The total number of confirmed cases for Leeds has now risen to five, with the first two people in Leeds to test positive after a trip to Iran.

Yesterday, a third person was confirmed to have contracted the virus and tonight, two more have been announced.

Another woman from Ilkley also caught the infection after recently travelling to Italy.

No details have been released on the circumstances surrounding the two latest patients who tested positive.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Health said due to the volume of coronavirus patients it can no longer comment on individual cases.

Across the whole of Yorkshire there are a total of 12 confirmed cases, including the five in Leeds.

The outbreak is having an impact on stock at supermarkets, with panic buying shoppers believed to be the cause of empty loo roll and hand sanitiser shelves in stores .
