A fifth person has died in the UK after testing positive for coronavirus

A fifth person in the UK has died after testing positive for coronavirus, NHS England had said.

It comes hours after a Wolverhampton coronavirus patient became the fourth to die in UK, it was announced earlier today.

The Wolverhampton patient was in their 70s and was being treated for an underlying health condition.

Daniel Elkeles, chief executive for Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, confirmed the news was true.

He said: "We can confirm that sadly, a patient in their seventies who was very unwell with a number of significant and long-term health conditions has passed away at St Helier Hospital. They had tested positive for Covid-19."

The announcement was made on Monday afternoon as the number of confirmed coronavirus cases rose by 46 to 319.

There are currently six cases of coronavirus in Wales.

On Monday health officials said of the two new cases, one patient is a resident in Neath Port Talbot and has recently returned from southern Italy.

The second patient is a resident in the Newport local authority area and has recently returned from northern Italy, Public Health Wales confirmed.

Both patients are being managed in "clinically-appropriate settings".
