Near the delta of the Abukumagawa river in Iwanuma, Miyagi Prefecture, Noboru Omura, proprietor of the Tamaura plantation, is continuing preparations to attract new business to the tourist farming area.
Omura's home and fields suffered heavy damage in the tsunami after the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011.
"I want to bring the prosperity back to this disaster-hit area," said Omura, who rented 2 hectares of farming land and began growing olives and other products.
Once the crops mature, full-fledged harvests are expected to come in a few years. He is conceiving plans to open a cafe and have an area where members of the public can experience picking their own blueberries.
"I'd love for many tourists to visit," he said in a voice bolstered by dreams.
