A festival inspired by Michelle Obama's memoir Becoming is coming to London

Michelle Obama will return to London next month for another live discussion of her bestselling memoir Becoming, after her first appearance sold out in seconds.

To celebrate the former First Lady’s return, Black Girl Festival and Penguin are holding a free three-day festival of talks and workshops inspired by the themes in the book.

From April 9-11, BGF x Becoming at Canada Water Library will feature history lessons on black British feminism, creative writing workshops and interviews with rising creative stars soon to be announced.

Black Girl Festival, founded by Paula Akpan and Nicole Crentsil, is an arts festival that champions black women. The main festival will take place at Islington's Business Design Centre on October 12.

Becoming has sold more than 600,000 copies in the UK and placed Obama at the top of the bestseller list over Christmas, making her the first person of colour ever to claim the top spot.

Obama’s interview with Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie at the Southbank Centre was met with a standing ovation and audience members calling it a ‘phenomenal’ and ‘inspirational’ evening.

Tickets to BGF x Becoming are free but registration is essential. Tickets can be found here.
