A Dumfries mum finds out her car had been written off after she was contacted on Facebook

A pregnant woman only realised her car had been written off outside her front door when a friend told her on Facebook.

Gabriella Parello’s Honda was one of five that was damaged in an incident in Galloway Street in Dumfries on New Year’s eve.

When the 31-year-old went out to have a look the next day, she found her vehicle “sandwiched” between two others and cordoned off by police tape.

Gabriella said: “A friend contacted me on Facebook and asked what had happened to my car. That’s the first I knew because I hadn’t heard a thing.

“I got home from my work around 4.45pm on Tuesday and was in for the night.

“It seems like a car crashed into one which then shunted into the others, but I don’t have a clue what happened because nobody has told me.

“I’m 17 weeks pregnant and have a young son —I couldn’t sleep after seeing the car as I was so stressed.

“Our car is so old it’s bound to be a write-off but I wasn’t able to contact my insurance company for days because we didn’t know the extent of the damage.

“I went outside and the cars were surrounded by police tape. I use my car all the time to get to work at Tesco and to go to my maternity appointments.

“We’ll need to get a new car, which we can’t afford.

“I’d like to know what happened. Thank goodness I wasn’t in the car with my young son at the time.”

A police spokesman said: “A 35-year-old man has been arrested and charged with road traffic offences following a crash that occurred in Galloway Street on December 31.

“A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
