A driver ran off after crashing a car, passengers gave 999 crew a hard time, police say it was 'totally non essential travel'

A driver on a 'totally non-essential' journey ran off after crashing into a tree, police say.

And when the emergency services turned up the passengers who'd been left behind gave them a 'hard time'.

The crash took place on Bramhall Lane South in Stockport at 1am on Saturday.

All non-essential journeys are banned during the coroanvirus lockdown.

CCTV footage from the scene shows the Vauxhall Corsa career off the road before hitting a tree.

A few seconds later two men can be seen running off across a field.

Witnesses describe hearing an 'almighty bang' as the car crashed.

A post on the GMP Cheadle and Bramhall Facebook page said: "One from overnight Bramhall Lane South.

"Two ambulances and multiple police attended to a driver that fled the scene leaving passengers inside.

"Passengers then give ambulance crews and police a hard time, all of which for totally non essential travel.

"Summons in the post."

Lucy Beattie replied: "Why do people just not get it??

"Disgusting attitude to authorities....but they’ll expect full treatment when they get ill.

"I feel people like this are just sticking 2 fingers up to us front line workers.

"Good work from our local police, thank you for helping keep us safe and sorry you have to deal with such abuse."

And Victor Ettenfield posted: "Both stupid and criminal, our emergency services dont need this at any time, but now of all time its unforgivable."
